Obtaining FEFF

--------------------------------------------------

The FEFF Project codes are software licensed through the University of Washington Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer. There are three steps to obtain FEFF.

  1. Complete, sign and mail to us an original hard-copy license agreement.
  2. We will send you an invoice number.
  3. Send payment or official, institutional purchase order (see below).

License agreement. We cannot release FEFF to you until we have received a completed original hard-copy license agreement signed by the end-user. This agreement can be downloaded from our Web page and printed out. There are two forms of the agreement:

  1. Academic, (includes governmental, and non-profit)
  2. Commercial.
Download the license agreement which is appropriate for your organization.

End-User. The end-user must be a permanent member of the research group, laboratory, or institution. If you are a graduate student or postdoctoral research associate, the senior person in your laboratory (professor or laboratory director) should complete and sign the license agreement.

Payment.

1) By check or Money Order in US Dollars, or
2) By institutional Purchase Order, or
3) By electronic bank wire transfer, or
4) By credit card.

Electronic bank wire transfers. Wire transfers should be sent as follows to:

FEFF Project
Bank of America, Washington
Re: OIPTT 62762208, FEFF#XXX.
University of Washington
ABA #026009593
Seattle, WA 98105-4412, USA

NOTE: "XXX" = The invoice number we assign to your order. You must include the FEFF invoice number on the wire transfer. If you are paying for FEFF with an electronic bank wire transfer, do not request the wire transfer until you have received an invoice or invoice number from us.

Wire transfers sent without a FEFF invoice number often do not get credited to the FEFF account and therefore you may not be credited with your payment.

Receiving FEFF. Our normal method of providing you with FEFF is to send a password to your e-mail address so you may download the FEFF software codes from the Internet. We can also provide feff on cd-rom, but we do not have the funds or staff to distribute bug fixes or updates on cd-rom. Updates are available on our Web site and may be downloaded at any time once you are a licensed end-user of FEFF.

E-mail addresses. PLEASE TYPE OR PRINT YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS CAREFULLY and CLEARLY where requested on the order form and licensing agreement.

Different languages and countries form letters and numbers in different ways. We frequently have trouble reading handwritten e-mail addresses. Sending us an e-mail is one way to insure we have your correct e-mail address.

UWXAFS Orders. It is no longer possible to combine your order for FEFF with an order for UWXAFS. Please log on the UWXAFS home page at: http://depts.washington.edu/uwxafs for current information on how to order UWXAFS.

Obtaining FEFF Quickly

First
Download electronic copies of the price list, the order form, and the license agreement. Electronic versions are available in PostScript or in the Rich Text Format (RTF), which is readable by Microsoft Word. You will need to make hard copies of each of these documents.

For academic, non-profit, or government clients:

For corporate clients:

Second
Fill out the order form and the license agreement completely. Return the order form and license agreement along with proper payment or a copy of an official purchase order to

When we receive your license agreement
Once we have received the properly completed license agreement and payment or purchase order, we will contact you by e-mail with your password to download FEFF and its companion program Atoms via the Internet. The source code for both programs, as well as binary versions for MS-DOS and Macintosh, documentation, examples, and other files are available either on the Web at this site or by anonymous ftp. When we contact you with your password, we will provide complete instructions for using our Internet resources to download FEFF.

Troubleshooting

If you have difficulties, try these:
Problem: You cannot download the order form and/or the license agreement.
Solution: Contact the FEFF Project Assistant by mail, phone, or e-mail, and have her mail hard-copies of the forms to you.
Problem: You cannot print out the forms.
Solution: Contact the FEFF Project Assistant and have her mail you the forms. If you think that the PostScript or Word files are corrupted, complain to the webmaster.
Problem: You sent in the paperwork and a lot of time has elapsed.
Solution: Contact the FEFF Project Assistant. Perhaps there is some confusion regarding your paperwork. Perhaps it never arrived. Perhaps the purchase request is delayed in the accounts payable department at your end. The only way to find out is to communicate and investigate.
Problem: You do not have reliable Internet access or you cannot download the software.
Solution: Contact the FEFF Project Assistant and request floppy disks containing the version of FEFF you wish to purchase. Please note that this is not an optimal solution, as we do not distribute bug fixes or other minor updates by diskette although such updates will always be available to you on the Web. It is therefore advantageous to be able to download FEFF from the net. If you do not have an ftp or a Web browser, we strongly encourage you to obtain one.
