Subscribing to the FEFF Mailing lists :
Dear Colleague,We're pleased to announce the creation of an e-mail mailing list dedicated to users of the FEFF x-ray absorption codes and related software. The aim of the list is to have an open forum for discussions of all topics of interest to FEFF users. Thus the subject content may include frequently asked questions and their answers, bug reports and fixes, reports of compiler problems and solutions, suggestions/requests for improvements in the codes, comments on the documentation or lack thereof, and also comments on the theory.
This mailing list is called
feffusers
and is unmoderated. Any message posted to feffusers will be received by all members of the list. The list is maintained by the University of Washington Listproc system.
Membership is not exclusively limited to FEFF code users per se. It is open to anyone with an interest in x-ray spectroscopy or electronic structure software and related codes such as analysis software. Archives of list postings will be open to anyone, not just subscribers, and will be visible on the FEFF Mailing List Archives linked above.
The feffusers list is not intended to cover topics of technical interest largely to developers of the FEFF codes and related software. A separate mailing list is available (the feffdevel list). [If you wish to subscribe to that list too, simply substitute feffdevel for feffusers in the instructions below.]
To send (post) messages to distribute to all members of the feffusers list, e-mail your message to: feffusers@u.washington.edu with an appropriate subject line and signature.
Please abide by the rules of list etiquette listed below, which is adapted from the UW WWW site. For example private correspondence, flames, etc. are inappropriate. For more details and other information, e.g., list archives, commands, etc, see the URL:

How to subscribe to feffusers
To subscribe feffusers, send an e-mail message [from the machine you will post messages from] with no subject and the following single line in the message body:
subscribe feffusers <your name>
to listproc@u.washington.edu
where <your name> is your preferred name. (Do Not include the < > symbols.) For example, J.J. Rehr would send the one line e-mail message:
subscribe feffusers J.J. Rehr
Please send any comments and suggestions concerning the feffusers list to me at jjr@phys.washington.edu or, if appropriate, post them to feffusers. I am the official owner of the list and am responsible for list configuration and other issues. The following are general guidelines that should be observed when posting messages to a ListProc mailing list.
* Meaningful Subject Line
When sending messages to a ListProc mailing list, please make sure that they have a clear and descriptive entry on the "Subject:" line.
* Include a Signature
Please be sure to sign your full name at the bottom of your posting and include your affiliation(s) and e-mail address. Some subscribers may receive their e-mail messages with the header information stripped away by their local system and therefore cannot know the author of a particular posting.
* Provide Context
Every posting should begin with a clear introduction to the topic, or offer some kind of reference to the topic or a previous posting. There are often several "threads" of discussion going on simultaneously, which makes unreferenced postings confusing to readers.
A popular way of providing context is to quote verbatim from the original message. However, keep the quotations *short* and *relevant*. Quoting whole messages, signatures and all, can be inconsiderate.
* Humor
Humor is appreciated, but please remember that humor in email can easily be misinterpreted. One way to express emotion is to use smilies. For example: humorous :-) , ironic ;-) , or sad :-( .
* Appropriate Use
The feffusers mailing lists is an "unmoderated" list. This means that what members post goes directly to the other members. In order to keep lists uncensored, it is important that only pertinent messages are posted to the list. Members whose messages do not meet minimum expectations will be notified, and may be excluded permanently from future participation.
* Personal Mail
Just as it is important to try to share public information with the whole group, private correspondence should remain just that -- private. Send personal messages directly to individuals, not by way of the list.
